Tulsa Public Schools held its annual Back-to-School Extravaganza for McLain High School. Some of the schools are facing challenges as the year begins, but this program is meant to inspire and motivate families.

Children lined up ready to receive backpacks full of school supplies.  Once inside parents found informational booths, from Girl Scouts to school human resources, allowing them to apply for jobs.

There were also tech workers who were on hand helping parents access their student's grades and free lunch applications.

The goal of the extravaganza is to make parents feel welcome and to invite them to be part of the education process.

One school board member says her main goal for this next year is to make teachers a priority.

"If we are talking about putting our energy in one place it should be to guard up our teachers and support them wherever. I wish we could incentive them because, teachers, that is really the most important position in TPS," said Lana Turner-Addison, school board member.
