Medical Marijuana Petition Falls Short Of Necessary Signatures

Posted: Updated:

The Oklahoma Secretary of State's Office says an effort to legalize medical marijuana in the state has fallen short of the number of signatures needed to put the issue on the ballot.

Volunteers for Tulsa-based Oklahomans for Health collected 75,384 signatures in their petition drive.  They needed 155,216 to get the issue on the general election ballot on November 4th.

Oklahomans for Health delivered their petitions on August 15th.  At that time, the organization's director said it appeared their effort would fall short.

The organization plans another initiative petition drive next year.
